His stratagems and flimflams culminated in a Union victory that allowed America to become whole once more. With his forward thinking and charismatic leadership, Grant inspired men to fight for his cause, taking strategic risks as he urged them on in the war for unity. Grant is one of the most well remembered Generals, not only because of his courageous efforts during the war, but also because of his thoughts that influenced the country in the aftermath. Instead of receding into his medals of honor, Grant stepped forward, helping set the terms of the new Union between the North and the South. Ulysses S. Grant was a military leader as well as a leader of the common people.
