Overall SuccessDespite his plentiful leadership qualities, General Arthur MacArthur was not as prestigious as his leadership skills should have led him to be. Although his men followed him with loyalty and respect, neither they nor MacArthur achieved any accomplishment of great merit. The motivation, leadership, and dedication that was displayed during his command was left in the shadow of other well-known generals. Given the proper opportunity, MacArthur's valiance may have resulted in great victories, but the Union chain of command did not allow for any such opportunity.
