P.G.T. Beauregard
"The enemy has assailed my outposts in heavy force. I have fallen back on the line of Bull Run and will make a stand at Mitchell's Ford".
Overall Success
Beauregard recieved a formal training at the United States Military Academy. He participated in many high profile battles and was the victor at the First Battle of Bull Run. One of his most significant achievements was saving the cities of Petersburg and Richmond from attacks by the high-caliber Union Army. Unfortunately, his influence over the Confederate strategy was hampered by his poor relations with Jefferson Davis and several other generals. Beauregard and his commander convinced Davis that the war needed to end, and most of the remaining Confederate troops were given to Sherman. The willingness to accept defeat gracefully is a distinguished characteristic of P.G.T. Beauregard. If he had been able to follow orders and get along with his fellow commanders, he would have been even more effective as a leader.
